A new space suit, designed by NASA and called the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU), was created to protect astronauts from life-threatening conditions on the Moon's surface and is currently being tested.

The new suit is presented by NASA as "very different" from those used by astronauts in Earth orbit in recent decades, during missions on the International Space Station (ISS).

xEMU will be the first man-made space suit on the surface of the moon since the end of the Apollo mission program in the 1970s.
