The R5 Turbo 3E concept car is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Renault 5. The concept car will be shown at the Paris Motor Show on October 17. Renault keeps what they promise. In 2022, the brand's most prominent icon, the R5, will be celebrated appropriately.

After participating in the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, Rétromobile Motor Show, Le Mans Classic, and unveiling its Renault 5 Diamant concept car, a world premiere of the R5 Turbo 3E will be held at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance 2022 competition on September 25.

This 100% electric concept is also a tribute to the most famous sports versions of the R5; Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. The car has been named R5 TURBO 3E (3 after Turbo 2 and E for electric).

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is, together with the Renault 5 Prototype, an example of the brand's electric rebirth of its historic flagships. This interpretation of the Renault 5 Turbo2 is extravagant, and the performance is top class. The car is displayed at Chantilly Arts&Elegance as a perfect mix of the vehicle of the future and fashion. During the parade, the driver of the R5 Turbo 3E will wear costumes created by La Fameuse. This fashion designer has made a name for himself by transforming existing garments into unique, sporty, stylish clothes. The suits carry Renault's historical logos and colors in a new vintage.

Designed for performance and track driving, the R5 TURBO 3E is a pure drifter, all-electric and rear-wheel drive. Like its iconic predecessor, it is a two-seater. The driveline is located at the back, with two electric motors, with the batteries in the middle under the floor.

The R5 TURBO 3E is built on a tubular chassis, protected by a flat base and shielded by anti-roll bars approved by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The engine has 280 kW (eq. 380 hp) total power and 700 Nm of immediately available torque.

This new generation R5 Turbo 2 does 100 meters in just 3.5 seconds (3.9 seconds in Drift mode) and achieves a top speed of 200 km/h. The 42 kWh battery is enough for many laps on the track or furious gym tap. In the drifting mode, the car has a 50-plus steering angle to avoid obstacles more easily.

To record the car's performance, the R5 TURBO 3E has several mounting brackets for cameras inside and outside - perfect for capturing the best images of the car's drifting ability.

The brief to the design team read: "A work of art with exaggerated lines, inspired by the world of video games and with hints of Renault 5 and Renault 5 Turbo, exterior, and interior."

And the result is spectacular! The bonnet, doors, and cockpit have the same shape as their predecessors – but this time, the body is made of carbon fiber. It also features a new version of the Turbo 2's iconic air intakes on the rear fenders. It is 2 meters wide (25 cm more than its predecessor), 4 meters long, and about 1.3 meters high. The enormous rear spoiler makes the car grip the ground even during the wildest drifting.

The large air intakes on the R5 TURBO 3E's front bumper cool the engine and add downforce. The three vertical sections are literally reminiscent of the R5 Turbo 2's bumper. The square fog lights glimpse a lot like "back in the days" – but now there are four, each containing 16 LEDs.

The Renault electric car has pink, blue, and yellow LED strips front and rear, which flash when the car moves, giving it a 1980s and 1990s video game feel. Finally, the plexiglass windows are pink, and a sticker with the text "La vie en rose" is on the rear left.

The car is the opposite of nostalgic, and it is modern. For example, the air intakes on the bonnet – a nod to the Renault 5 Turbo 2 – accommodate the battery charging socket. And the transparent parts make it possible to look into the electric mechanism of the concept car.

The interior of the R5 TURBO 3E show car is contemporary and a feeling combined with motorsport, video games, and of course, the Renault 5 and Renault 5 Turbo 2 icons.

Carbon fiber seats, seat belts, and steering wheel result from a collaboration with Sabelt. The handbrake lever – a mainstay of the drifter car – is in the center console's center is 'pop yellow.' The same yellow color intertwines with pink to add sparkle to the gray and black tartan - checkered fabric - on the seats and dashboard. The tartan, in turn, provides a visual effect based on the Renault logo. There's also a logo - which lights up this time - on the steering wheel hub. All these colorful details also contrast with the black cork and Alcantara floor lining the top of the dashboard and door panels.

Ten digital displays are located on the R5 TURBO 3E's dashboard. They act as widgets and look like Pixel Art and Glitch Art, and seem to have jumped out of history. The driver must press the "Free play" button on the center console to start the car. Likewise, the various driving modes have been renamed to "Turbo" (for drifting), "Track invader" (for gaming), "Donut" (for 360° spins), and so on.

A teddy bear called Drifty is a final "touch" that shows the R5 Turbo 3E doesn't take itself too seriously. There to make drivers and passengers relax as they are overwhelmed by the muscle of the concept car.

In addition to being a real car, the R5 TURBO 3E show car is also a sign of its time. Its digital double player comes in virtual games in Web3.

Following the event in Chantilly, the R5 TURBO 3E will be at Renault's stand at the 2022 Paris Motor Show (from October 17 to 23).
