Mazda unveiled its first new-era model, the Mazda CX-60 PHEV, emphasizing the Japanese approach. With a particular strategy, considered risky in some places, Mazda is trying to align itself with electrification in its style, but with outside technical assistance. The Japanese manufacturer needs new models with a discreetly refreshed CX-5, but already six years on the market. Here's the first, the Mazda CX-60, a slightly larger SUV than the Mazda CX-5, features a substantial Kodo design evolution. Noteworthy is the massive front, with the same style of grille, but larger and smaller headlights, with the line of daytime running LEDs that connect them and the grille on chrome background. It is a more imposing, more complex aspect, this idea being underlined by the vertical air intakes on the sides. Another significant change is in the taillights. They have a luminous signature in the shape of the letter "L" and extend far to the center of the tailgate.
2022 Mazda CX-60 PHEV is 4.74 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2,870 mm. It is larger in all respects than the Mazda CX-5 but slightly lower. There is not much information about the interior, just what we see in the pictures. It is noticeable that the dashboard is differently structured, the grilles at the ends are now vertical, but the general atmosphere is the same. The same goes for the central display, which we do not yet know if it can be operated by touch and the controller on the console. Another change, the Mazda CX-60, has moved to the digital dashboard.
The new Japanese SUV is built on a new platform, the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, which allows longitudinally placed engines and rear-wheel drive. The new Mazda CX-60 plug-in hybrid has rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Japanese rely on more dynamic behavior and have announced that the Mazda CX-60 wants to enter more in the premium area.
Mazda not only continues to ignore downsizing but goes in the opposite direction. The Mazda CX-60 PHEV debuts with in-line 6-cylinder engines that were announced two years ago. The petrol engine has 3 liters and is aspirated, and the turbodiesel has 3.3 liters. Mazda does not yet give any information about their performance, but it does tell us something about the CX-60 PHEV. The plug-in hybrid SUV is equipped with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, a 100 kW electric motor, and it has a 17.8 kWh battery. In total, the Mazda CX-60 PHEV delivers a maximum of 327 hp and can run 63 km on electric mode when the maximum speed is 100 km / h. In hybrid mode, the Mazda CX-60 plug-in hybrid has a top speed limit of 200 km / h.
